About Our Opportunity
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Person is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs, and servicing in the following areas - carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and ventilation, on properties, under the jurisdiction of Western District.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
- Carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities, and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain properties under the jurisdiction of the Western District, including walks, driveways and parking areas, drainage systems, curbs and gutters, swales, culverts, manholes, catch basins, etc.
- Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports and inventory records.
- Repair vacant units to make them rent-ready.
- Operate motor vehicles, motorized equipment and power tools used in the trade.
- Respond to after-hours maintenance calls while participating on the standby duty roster.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent, plus five years' experience in building and property maintenance or a related field. Must be able to perform basic tasks in carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and drywall.
- Ability to operate electrical and mechanical tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks using good body mechanics.
- Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Assets
- Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
- Knowledge of computer systems is beneficial.

District offices manage the day-to-day operations of Nova Scotia's housing stock. Their responsibilities include administering tenant applications and placements, collecting rent, resolving tenant issues, and maintaining and repairing properties.

Salary Range: $23.98- $27.67 Hourly
