About Our Opportunity

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Property Maintenance is responsible for providing grounds care, maintenance, and housekeeping services for all exterior and interior areas of Housing Authority properties that are not the responsibility of individual tenants. Completion of work assignments given by the Maintenance Supervisor must be kept within the standards and safe practices adopted by Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency.

Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities

  • Ensure all exteriors and public entrances are safe and open.
  • Clean up any debris or garbage, refuse or trash from the grounds and surrounding areas.
  • Perform winter snow and ice clearance duties such as, but not limited to, salting or shoveling of snow from steps, landings, emergency exits, ramps, and walkways as assigned.
  • Prepare soil, plants flowerbeds, trees, bushes etc., prunes trees and shrubs, grass cutting, hedge trimming, and other general landscaping duties as required.
  • Complete work orders and material requisitions as required.
  • Carry out routine cleaning, inspection and servicing of equipment and report defects to the supervisor.
  • Report maintenance requirements and any usual events to the supervisor and report unsafe conditions or practices and take corrective measures if possible.
  • Transporting and moving appliances in and out of tenant units as directed.
  • Pre-cleaning and final cleaning of vacant units as directed.
  • Removing unwanted furniture, garbage and any other such items left behind in vacant units.
  • General laborer duties as directed by maintenance supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or high school equivalency plus two years' related experience.
  • Ability to communicate with tenants, ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety, performing tasks in a safe manner according to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education and NSPHA safety standards and policies.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.

Assets

  • Possess current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
