Halifax Water is inviting applicants for one (1) Term Full-time Supervisor, Wastewater Treatment (approx. 2 years) in the Operations Department. What you'll do

Responsibilities

This position is directly responsible for the operations, maintenance and budgetary management of Halifax Water wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure for the purpose of environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and public health. This position requires a high degree of decision making skill and requires working independently.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education: Minimum two year community college technical program applicable to Water or Wastewater Treatment or related discipline; a Level III Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour (NSEL) certification (or equivalent) as well as specialized courses in water/wastewater treatment. A combination of industry recognized wastewater treatment, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or instrumentation training and experience may be considered.

Experience: Five years related experience in the wastewater treatment industry with demonstrated supervisory ability.

Certificates / Licenses / Registrations:

Valid NS Drivers License and willingness to use own vehicle and be willing to use their own vehicle in accordance with the Mileage Policy.

Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
• First Aid
• WHMIS
• Confined Space Entry
• Fall Protection
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods
• Rigging
• Lockout/Tagout
• H2S Awareness

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various wastewater/water treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Applicable Federal and Provincial legislation, Environment Act, CCME, OH&S, WHMIS, Halifax Water policies.
  • Biological and chemical treatment processes.
  • Instrumentation, computerized control and electrical systems.
  • Computer software programs: Microsoft Office, SCADA, and Datastream MP2, etc.
  • Ability to react appropriately during emergency conditions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, internal, and external customers.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent off-hour communication with treatment facility employees to assist in resolving treatment facility issues.
  • This position exposes the Supervisors to varying degrees of physical, emotional, and mental demands.

Work Environment:

  • Periodically subjected to chemical fumes, malodours, bacterial aerosols, VOC (volatile organic compounds).
