The Department of Psychology at Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a preferred start date of July 1, 2024, in the area of Clinical Psychology.

The successful applicant will join a 22-member Department. The Department has an applied focus with major and honours curriculum (B.Sc. and B.A.), a M.Sc. in Applied Psychology (Industrial/Organizational Psychology stream and Forensic Psychology stream), certificate programs in Human Resource Management and Forensic Psychology, and a Ph.D. program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Department members also supervise students in the Master and PhD in Applied Science programs, and Master of Applied Health Services Research program offered through the Faculty of Science and participate in other graduate programs across the institution. Job Information and Responsibilities


As Assistant Professor, the successful applicant will:

  • Have a strong desire to help create excellent student learning experiences through curriculum development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate teaching, primarily in the area of clinical psychology.
  • Have expertise that complements the teaching and research focus of the department.
  • Develop and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program in their field, with student involvement at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Contribute to the administrative service activities within the Department, the Faculty of Science, and the University.


Experience and Education Requirements


To be the successful applicant you will have:

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent degree) with a particular focus in an area that can support research programs in the Department (e.g., forensic psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology).
  • Eligibility to register with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (at any stage)
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in university teaching.
  • Strong record of research and well-developed plan to establish an independent, externally funded research program.
  • A plan to contribute positively to service activities within the university.

  • Teaching dossier including a statement on teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and details on experiences training students.
