Position: Technology Analyst - Voice and Data (9 month contract)

Department: Information Technology Systems & Support (ITSS)

Salary: $55,000 - $62,000 per annum, plus 4% vacation pay

Under the supervision of the Manager, Technology Operations and Infrastructure, the Technology Analyst is the specialist in a technology support area. The Technology Analyst provides design and development skills to the implementation of technology architectures.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Technology Analyst - Voice and Data include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and supporting the University's telecommunications architecture in collaboration with the ITSS team.
  • Monitoring the performance of the voice and data network infrastructure; identifying issues and taking corrective action as appropriate; identifying trends and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Assisting in operational infrastructure changes, support and administration.
  • Supporting ITSS and University staff in new systems and technologies as required.
  • Consulting with the University and ITSS regarding system design, problem resolution and strategy.
  • Performing analysis of current infrastructure and University requirements, and recommending and justifying changes resulting from these analyses.
  • Planning the implementation of technology infrastructure and upgrades, and working with internal staff and external departments, agencies or vendors to implement.
  • Maintaining a high level of current knowledge in telecommunications technologies.
  • Investigating new and emerging technologies and projecting the effect(s) on the University and ITSS.
  • Performing critical review of technology plans, designs and proposals from external vendors.

Key Technologies

  • Server systems and services currently include Avaya Telephone PBX and voice mail systems; HPE Aruba network equipment, Fortinet firewall, Windows and Linux servers.
  • Networks (physical and logical): Cabling systems (data, voice, video, fibre, coax); Network Equipment (switches, routers, media converters, firewalls, patch panels); Network transport protocols (TCP/IP, voice over IP)
  • Workstations and software deployment: PC (Windows, Unix), Various telephone terminal equipment.
  • Internet/Intranet systems and technologies: Network management using vendor and third party software, Network security management (manage virus protection, denial of service attacks)
  • Uninterruptable Power Supplies hardware using monitoring and management software.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Technology Analyst - Voice and Data, you will have completed two- or three-year formal technical training program (Community College) and possess a minimum of three (3) years' information technology experience in a technology support role.. You demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and the abilities to work on projects in a team environment and an individual basis as required
