Position: Technology Analyst - Servers (NSGEU Local 79)

Department: Information Technology Systems & Support (ITSS)

Annual Salary: $55,651 - $68,028 (Group 10)

Under the supervision of the Manager, Technology Operations & Infrastructure, the Technology Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, administration and support of the technology that provides enterprise services to the University. This includes servers, storage devices, and specialized appliances, and the various technology services that run on them.

Responsibilities

As the Technology Analyst include, duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and installing enterprise computer systems, including hardware components, server operating system(s), supporting software and system processes.
  • Recommending, coordinating and implementing system upgrades and changes.
  • Providing tier 2 technical support for services provided by ITSS, including troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair for incidents.
  • Responsible for the entire lifecycle of hardware and software, including decommissioning and disposal.
  • Configuring and monitoring system security, including intrusion detection/prevention, user account management, data access privileges, and security of scheduled jobs.
  • Monitoring services and event logs along with identifying potential issues and their impact and recommending and/or taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Scheduling and monitoring system backups and restoring files or entire systems, both on request and as periodic tests.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of passwords for hundreds of privileged system accounts and using many of those account in the course of daily operation.
  • Administrator for enterprise applications and services, including virtual machine environments, electronic mail, collaborative tools, and learning management system.
  • Performing and/or automating operational tasks for those applications, such as account management, data back up or restore, and problem resolution.
  • Active member of project teams as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Tier 2 technical support and advisor to both ITSS and external departments.
  • Performing ongoing research and knowledge update.
  • Networking with counterparts at other universities, technical organizations, and vendors.
  • Researching, designing and recommending new technologies, systems, and enhancements to existing production services and processes.
  • Documenting operational processes and system designs to serve as knowledge base for the Operations team.
  • Providing formal and ad hoc knowledge transfer to other team members and departmental colleagues.
  • Maintaining a record of incident/problem troubleshooting (steps, findings, solutions, technical details) in the department'
  • Providing backup for other members of the Operations team as required due to illness, vacation or other absences.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Technology Analyst you will possess a combination of university and/or technical courses, equivalent to two (2) years' post-high school education along with a minimum of two years' of recent and related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Expertise with current technologies relating to server administration and management, storage and hybrid environments is essential. Experience as a VM Ware Administrator and/or Cloud Server Administrator will be considered assets. You will further demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; dedication to customer service; and attention to detail and accuracy will ensure your success in this position. Your ability to keep abreast of trends and changes and learn new technology is required.
