The Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Boat Harbour Effluent Treatment Facility Operations Manager, the Waste Water Operator performs services as necessary to operate, inspect and maintain the mechanical, electrical, chemical, and structural infrastructure associated with Boat Harbor. Must be able to participate in rotating standby/call back schedule with other staff, as well as to work independently, supervise others when necessary.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
1. To ensure the uninterrupted operation of Boat Harbor Wastewater Operations: Operates the effluent water treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater treatment plant to control flow and processing: Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow.
To carry out routine system checks and repairs to mechanical, electrical, and chemical equipment associated with the waste water system. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of affluent through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes including but not limited to the following: meters, pumps, valves, intake screens, wells, water control gates.
3. To maintain property and buildings: building repairs, vegetation control on the dam and property boundaries, seasonal grounds maintenance (grass cutting, snow and ice control, etc.).
4. Our operations works diligently and as a team to limit interaction with wildlife and work to always improve operations to this goal.
5. Provide assistance in compiling information and writing submittals to regulatory authorities as well as assist in writing Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Contingency Plans.
What you'll need
Qualifications
This job will require a Class 1 Waste Water Operator Certification or a qualified Operator in Training with previous experience that must undertake training and then apply and write and obtain Class 1 within 1 year of employment. Candidate may be required to obtain Class 3 commensurate with experience and training.
