Reporting to the Director of Computer Services, the Systems Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the University's server and network infrastructure, as well as assisting with technical support issues, software and hardware implementation, equipment setup and installation.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Installation, implementation and troubleshooting of all computer hardware, software, systems, networks and related equipment.
  • Troubleshooting user hardware and software issues.
  • Monitoring, maintaining and supporting all switches, wireless controllers and access points.
  • Monitoring and maintaining all servers, server operating systems and network appliances.
  • Performing patch installations and upgrades on all systems.
  • Administering and implementing security policies and procedures.
  • Managing user authentication and security.
  • Implementing systems and security improvements by assessing current situation, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
  • Participate in the release process of new versions of applications.
  • Engage with 3rd party support vendors on product support issues and escalation procedures.
  • Provide back-up support to other department members as needed.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Relevant diploma/degree in Computer Science, Information Systems and a minimum 3 years of experience in Systems Administration is requireed (an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered). Knowledge of network technologies such as routers, switches, VLANs and wireless access points is required. Knowledge of computer software and hardware in a mixed environment (macOS and Windows) is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge of network services such as DNS, DHCP and NTP is preferred. Experience with data management, backup and archival processes is preferred. Applicable certifications e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco are preferred. Windows Server administration experience is preferred. Linux Server administration experience is preferred. Experience managing Active Directory and Group Policy is preferred. Experience with MS SQL Server and reporting tools is preferred. Experience with Microsoft 365 administration is preferred. Experience with Hyper-V virtualization is an asset.
