As the summer student under the supervision of your direct report, you will play a vital role in advancing policy formation across a variety of subject areas to support the development of a resilient regional transportation system. You will gain practical experience and receive mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn;

Support policy development by providing research, analysis, and jurisdictional scans on a variety of complex issues relating to the JRTA mandate;

With support prepare clear, accurate, and timely briefing materials;

Coordinate and track deliverables as directed;

Report on the progress of projects and other initiatives as required;

This position may perform other related duties as assigned to support the JRTA team.

What you'll need

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

· is efficient with computers including Office software such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint;

· is organized and able to prioritize your work; and

· demonstrates excellent communication skills and work well in both independent and team-based work environments.

· has a high degree of independent judgement and initiative, with the ability to develop concepts and communicate effectively (written and verbally).

Joint Regional Transportation Agency

The Joint Regional Transportation Agency (JRTA) provides a collaborative forum responsible for long-range strategic transportation planning across the Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding communities. A key deliverable for the JRTA is the development and execution of the Regional Transportation Plan.

The plan will establish a coordinated and strategic vision for a regional transportation system that makes sustainable growth and development possible and improve the safe and efficient flow of people (walking/rolling, cycling, buses, ferries, trains, vehicles), and goods (trucks, trains, ships, planes), and the necessary infrastructure (streets, transportation facilities, highways, bridges, rail corridors, ports - marine, ground, air) into, out of, and throughout Halifax and surrounding communities.
