The Opportunity
Join the University of Fredericton (UFred) team in a key student support role that helps make higher education more accessible. As a Student Loan Officer, you will play an important part in guiding prospective and current students through federal and provincial student loan programs, ensuring they understand their financial aid options and can confidently navigate the funding process. This role combines technical knowledge of student financial aid with a strong commitment to student service, helping applicants access funding efficiently while ensuring compliance with government regulations and institutional policies.
Acting as both a subject-matter expert and a student support resource, the Student Loan Officer works closely with applicants to ensure timely access to financial aid and collaborates with internal teams to streamline financial support during the pre-enrollment and onboarding stages.

What you'll do
Responsibilities
Loan Processing & Management
- Review and process student loan information submitted through provincial and federal financial aid programs (e.g., Canada Student Loans, OSAP, Student Aid BC, etc.).
- Verify student eligibility and enrollment status to support disbursement processes and compliance reporting.
- Monitor the status of financial aid applications and proactively support students in completing documentation and meeting deadlines.
Student Counseling
- Provide individual advising to students and their families on financial aid options, loan terms, and eligibility criteria.
- Guide students in understanding repayment obligations, budgeting for tuition and related costs, and planning financially for their studies.
- Help students access additional funding options when required (e.g., grants, bursaries, RESPs, employer-sponsored funding).
Compliance & Record-Keeping
- Ensure loan processes comply with federal and provincial aid regulations, institutional policies, and privacy legislation
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of student loan applications, correspondence, and financial aid status in student information systems.
Communication & Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between students and relevant financial aid authorities (e.g., National Student Loans Service Centre, provincial loan offices).
- Collaborate with Admissions, Recruitment, and Student Services to provide a cohesive and informed student onboarding experience.
- Deliver timely and clear communication to students regarding financial aid status, next steps, and follow-up requirements.
Reporting & Analysis
- Track and report on student loan activity, disbursement timelines, and trends in student funding.
- Assist in identifying common barriers to funding completion and recommend improvements to financial aid processes.
What you'll need
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Education, or a related field (required)
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in financial aid administration, loan processing, or a related financial services role
- Familiarity with Canadian financial aid programs (Canada Student Loans, provincial aid systems, NSLSC)
- Experience working with CRM or student information systems (preferred)
Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of Canadian financial aid systems and student loan processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in advising and support contexts
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and CRM platforms
Work Environment
- Remote-first work environment with occasional in-person training, meetings, or events as required
- Collaborative team setting with regular communication across departments
- Occasional extended hours during peak enrollment or financial aid periods

Hours of Work
This is a full-time permanent position (35 hours per week) under regular business hours. The position is based in Fredericton, NB, with the option to work remotely from anywhere in New Brunswick and attend in-person meetings as required.
