Atlantic Lottery (AL) is seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst (currently known internally as Sr. Accountant). Location is flexible within Atlantic Canada with occasional travel to Moncton, NB.

Reporting the Manager, Finance Sales and Investments, the Sr. Financial Analyst is responsible for a variety of financial activities including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, financial analysis, month end cycle, reporting and ensuring proper accounting treatments are reflected in financial records. As the Sr. Financial Analyst you will provide insights to the business to optimize financial performance and support business decisions. You are comfortable presenting financial information and models in a concise and easily comprehensive manner.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Budgets and Projections - working closely with the business, prepare annual budgets and quarterly projections. Validate assumptions, analyze results to assess impact on corporate goals, and provide recommendations regarding risks and opportunities.

Financial Accounting - ensure month end financial accounting duties and all resulting financial reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure financial transactions are complete, reliable, and compliant with IFRS standards and other applicable legislation; maintain a solid understanding of Chart of Accounts and tax rules.

Reporting and Analysis - Prepare and review internal and external financial statements, reports and requests for information, as required.

Financial Performance - Analyze monthly financial results to assess impact on AL's corporate financial goals.

Financial Modeling - build and evaluate the financial performance of an investment or project taking into account all relevant factors and assumptions.

Financial Systems (Super-User) - Financial Systems Super-user for assigned Oracle applications ensuring optimization of the applications to maximize process efficiency and system performance. Ability to understand system logic, integration points and accounting requirements; troubleshoot and problem solve as required.

Compliance and Documentation - Review, analyze and action change to processes and documentation to align with emerging standards and legislation changes to ensure appropriate and correct recognition in accordance with CRA and other applicable legislation.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • You have a minimum of (5) five years' experience in an intermediate finance role with emphasis on analytical work.
  • You have relevant experience in financial modeling or analysis.
  • You have a degree and/or diploma in business administration with a specialization in accounting/finance.
  • Moderate to advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Must reside in Atlantic Canada.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older to apply.

  • Naturally inquisitive coupled with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to translate business ideas into financial plans and identify associated corporate impacts.
  • Tact when dealing with sensitive situations and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, prioritize and competently handle a variety of activities with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
  • An independent thinker and creative problem-solver who excels in both autonomous roles and as a collaborate and engaging team player.
  • An outstanding communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and easily to change.

Assets:

  • Experience working under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) legislation.
  • Experience with Oracle eBS, Hyperion, and Microsoft PowerBI.
  • Familiarity with payroll and pension legislation.
  • CPA designation.
