In the summer of 2019 NBSP will begin operating from a Social Pediatrics centre in one of Saint John's priority neighborhoods. The Social Pediatrics approach uses a medico-social-legal model to:

  • Identify the source of the child's challenges and those of the child's family;
  • Determine the child's needs, identify their strengths and ensure their rights are respected;
  • Mobilize the commit resources around the family;
  • Effectively engage citizens of the community in the child's care and in providing support to the family;

The Social Worker position is integral to the operation of the Social Pediatrics model. The Social Worker will work directly with the families and team to provide oversight to the program. 

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Assessing clients and developing and implementing treatment plans
  • Developing and facilitating therapeutic interventions for individuals, families and groups
  • Coordinating services and advocating for clients
  • Providing emergency/crises intervention/stabilization services
  • Participating in interdisciplinary care planning
  • Maintaining clinical records and documentation
  • Building relationships with critical stakeholders in government and the community
  • Responding to community needs (including schools and other populations/groups) and participating in capacity building initiatives
  • Planning, directing and evaluating Social Pediatrics programs and service
  • Serving as a communication link and liaison with internal and external stakeholders
  • Developing and/or ensuring compliance with standards, policies and procedures
  • Reviewing all open client files to ensure they have an active Recovery Plan with clear goals, objectives, timelines and discharge planning
  • Managing program budgets and resources

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • A University degree in Social Work
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers
  • Must have three years of clinical experience working with children and families, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Must have proof of a valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required
