We are now inviting applications for the position of Senior Manager, Event Operations.

The Senior Manager, Event Operations, supports the Director, Event Operations, by ensuring efficient and effective delivery of contracted events at Events East venues and by leading a dynamic team of event operations professionals.

Role Description:

The Senior Manager, Event Operations, is accountable for day-to-day operational oversight, including event planning, allocating resources, distributing information, preparing budgets, monitoring progress, and proactively communicating to stakeholders.

This role is responsible for delivery of the highest standards of fan and guest experience through exceptional employee engagement and strong operating practices, including the development, implementation, and refinement of operational programs, processes, and standards. Providing on-site, senior-level support for events is a critical part of this role. This can include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The position is also accountable to build and manage positive tenant, partner, and supplier relationships, actively providing strategic insight and operational guidance to ensure a premium guest and fan experience.

Fiscal Responsibility: Budget management and accountability, contract negotiation and compliance, inventory control, financial analysis techniques, and preparation and delivery of reports & presentations.

Project Management: Essential communication skills, time management strategies, fundamental critical thinking, task awareness, organization & delegation, and risk management.

Organizational Change Management: Understanding and active use of a defined change management model, identification of necessary supporting cultural changes, implementation of appropriate change infrastructure, and support for teams and leadership during change.

Key Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning and execution of events and effectively manage team output, workload, and delivery standards. Directly manage a percentage of contracted events, adhering to Events East policies and standards.
  • Lead selected event operational teams, providing guidance, direction, and support, ensuring a cohesive, high-caliber operation.
  • Lead continuous refinement of fan and guest experience model(s), keeping abreast of industry changes, trends, and best practices.
  • Support the implementation of strategic organizational change.
  • Work in partnership with operational delivery leaders to develop, document, and implement departmental standards and guidelines that align with industry best practices.
  • Lead development, documentation, and continued refinement of operational plans and deliverables associated with service suppliers.

Professional Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience including varied event types such as sporting events, conferences and conventions, galas, and concerts. At least five of those years should be at a senior level with demonstrated strategic responsibilities.

Completion of recognized post-secondary education is preferred; however, a suitable combination of skills and experience will be considered. Additionally, completion of a hospitality or tourism program, professional project management and/or change management certification, and/or recognized industry certification or designation (e.g., CMP, CMM, etc.) will be considered assets.

Events East

We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.

We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.

Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).
