About Our Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Senior Accounting Clerk is a specialized role that is responsible for a wide range of accounting functions for NSPHA. Working independently, responsibilities include preparing, and maintaining various transactions and records, journal entries, and reports using a computerized accounting system in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Housing Agency Practices. In addition, the position performs monthly account analyses, budget/forecasting, and year-end activities and provides financial backup as required.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
- Process, verify, and balance financial records and business transactions from the general ledger and its sub-ledgers (payroll income tax, employment insurance, union dues, garnishments, WCB, etc.)
- Assist with budget and forecasting procedures by populating and reporting budget/forecasting worksheets.
- Maintains accurate and current accounting records.
- Assists in year-end audit and fiscal year close by working with auditors and NSPHA managers and producing required reports.
- Review and verify for accuracy weekly accounts payable payment processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration with a major in Accounting, plus four years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and NSPHA accounting practices.
- Knowledge of information systems and procedures (accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, maintenance) and how these systems are integrated with the general ledger.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Assets
- Knowledge of Yardi Property Management Software

Salary Range: $27.62 to $30.56 hourly
Work Week: 35 hours
