The Secretary IV for the Departments of Anthropology and International Development Studies Program works as a staff member of the Faculty of Arts, and is a member of the Faculty of Arts Administrative Support Team. The Secretary IV reports to the Dean of Arts through the Administrative Assistant to the Dean, and works under the direct supervision of the Chairperson of Anthropology and the Coordinator of IDST. This role provides secretarial and administrative support to the Chairperson of Anthropology and the coordinator of IDST, and other members of the two academic departments including full and part-time faculty, and other personnel with links to departmental activities. The Secretary IV is the first point of contact to respond to basic enquiries from students, faculty, University staff and the external community, and provides appropriate referrals for complex inquiries. The Secretary IV is a resource and point of liaison in the Department of Anthropology and IDST, and other units within the University.

The Secretary IV works out of the Anthropology and International Development Studies Departments and reports to the Dean of Arts through the Administrative Assistant to the Dean.

Union affiliation for this position is with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU), Local 79 The position is evaluated at a Group 6 (salary range $37,797 - $44,769).

Qualifications

To be the successful Secretary IV you will have completed high school plus one (1) year Community College business/secretarial course and a minimum of one (1) year of directly related experience. The successful candidate should have technical typing, have working knowledge of several software packages including Microsoft Suite and have strong organizational skills and ability to function independently and as part of a team. Further, strong communication and listening skills and ability to handle and maintain confidential material is required. A demonstrated ability to work under pressure and ability to work remotely and support faculty working remotely will round out the required qualifications. Website and social media communications and experience working in a University environment will be considered assets.
