Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chairperson, Department of Chemistry, the Science Technician III will:

  • Provide technical and support services to the Chemistry Department.
  • Instruct student assistants, prepare and/or organize chemical solutions and reagents for teaching purposes, ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, promote a safe laboratory environment, and perform procurement of chemicals, supplies, and minor equipment.
  • Organize and coordinate weekly schedules for student teaching assistants with laboratory preparation duties.
  • Research, compile and develop training manuals and operating procedures for instruments and equipment used in teaching labs, evaluate and revise where necessary.
  • Ensure a safe working environment within the laboratory. Informs laboratory visitors of hazardous nature of chemicals and the safety precautions necessary.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Science Technician III you will have:

  • University degree in Science
  • Minimum two (2) years of directly related work experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
