The School store provides class and student supplies and operates at no cost to NSCAD University or with a net profit to NSCAD. The School Store Manager is responsible for managing the School Store in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Manages and supervises the overall operation of the School Store; hours, levels of service, prices and profits.

  • Establishes and enforces internal Store policy, discussing policies that affect NSCAD in general with the appropriate individuals.

  • Retails goods to the NSCAD community; tailors ordering of merchandise to the needs of NSCAD; disperses order forms to all faculty, divisions and departments for goods required for the upcoming semester and informs them when goods arrive; checks prices for faculty prior to ordering when requested; analyzes and stocks items that will sell within the NSCAD community.

  • Retails goods outside of the NSCAD community; advertises externally when appropriate and economical; stocks goods that will sell outside of the community.

  • Maintains inventory levels consistent with NSCAD needs and financial needs of the Store, orders merchandise and prices products.

  • Responsible for conducting internal and external market surveys to identify marketing opportunities.

  • Responsible for sales and profit targets; regularly measures outcomes of profit targets.

  • Responsible for the promotion of new products.

  • Monitors stock and places orders as required with suppliers; receives and scrutinizes incoming orders, prepares purchase orders for payment by Business Office, and ensures that items are priced and shelved.

  • Updates inventory and pricing in Vend software as necessary

  • Performs weekly cycle counts to ensure accuracy of inventory; ensures annual inventory is prepared and audited

  • Monitors quality of goods received; deals with customer complaints; liaison with suppliers.

  • Prepares annual evaluation for staff.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in business or a related field plus a minimum of 5 years' experience in a retail environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Demonstrated experience in purchasing and inventory control required. Familiarity with budgeting and budget management required. Demonstrated experience promoting through social media a strong asset. Courses in art or experience in an art field would be a strong asset.
