Designed to meet the needs of multiple events, Nova Scotia's Halifax Convention Centre offers over 120,000 square feet of flexible event space in the heart of downtown. The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a million-square-foot, mixed-use development that includes a hotel, office towers, and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province's history.
THE POSITION:
The Halifax Convention Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Sales Associate with our Sales team.
Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Sales Associate is responsible for sales team administrative support as required across various markets to contribute to securing conferences and events. This position is also responsible for contributing to the team sales goal by booking new and reoccurring events with one hundred-fifty (150) or less expected attendees.
This permanent, salaried position will operate in the Halifax Convention Centre offices.
THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations:
- Ensure all event details gathered during the sales process are communicated to teams supporting a smooth transition to event execution.
- Communicate client site visits in a timely manner to all teams via the HCC Site Inspection Distribution List in Outlook.
- Manage special projects for the team as required including facilitation of our client appreciation program.
- Conduct and communicate client site inspections and engage team members including Encore when appropriate.
- Achieve annual performance goals to contribute to the organizations overarching targets for events and delegates hosted.
- Actively participate in team meetings, projects, and internal committees as assigned.
- Support the mission of the Halifax Convention Centre Customer Service Vision ensuring clear communication with internal teams and clients are supported through their customer journey.
- Other duties as required.
Administration:
- Adhere to all Events East Group policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Support sales team members with efficient and accurate preparation of proposals, contracts and addendums.
- Follow up on event deposits to ensure they are received on time.
- Respond to all client requests and communications with a pleasant demeanor ensuring accuracy of information and client needs are met.
- Respond within 24 hours to incoming inquiries via phone or the website.
- Book inquiries for events with one hundred fifty (150) or less expected attendees including booking space, client follow-up, site inspection and contract preparation.
- Log sales activity and client communication in Ungerboeck.
- Develop relationships with event management and operations team to support a positive client experience.
Leadership:
- Represent Halifax Convention Centre in a positive, professional manner with clients, guests and external partners.
Act as a positive role model for all staff members in job performance, work ethic, and disposition.
- Foster positive relationships with all teams, championing organizational values and recognizing colleagues who demonstrate supporting behaviors.
Training & Development:
- Participate actively in all training and development initiatives.
- Support adoption of new technologies and technical skills as they are introduced to the department.
- Support the adoption of new projects as they are introduced to the department.
Health & Safety:
- Create, promote, and follow all departmental standards and guidelines, job procedures, and protocols to continuously ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
- Report all safety hazards to the direct supervisor as soon as is reasonably possible. Take action to correct the safety hazard if possible and reasonable.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Preference for Business or Hospitality Degree or Diploma
- 1-2 years of experience in a comparable industry position.
- Strong communication and computer skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritize tasks with ease.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting for extended periods of time working on a computer.
- Other physical demands as required.

A little bit about us
Events East
We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.
We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.
Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).
