Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates 811 Telecare Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and in Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Risk Management and Compliance, the Risk Management Coordinator shall be responsible for supporting the Emergency Medical Care (EMC) Risk Management and Compliance provincial program. This position has a focus on the EHS system and is primarily located out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Additional secondary work locations are able to be considered.

The incumbent shall be responsible for monitoring, investigating and mitigating risks that impact the performance of EMC's operations, the delivery of patient care and the establishment of a safe environment for staff, patients and other stakeholders. As well, the incumbent shall be responsible to coordinate Issues Management (IM) cases, including database management, conducting investigations, completing case files, tracking mitigation loop closure and direct communication with patients, family, or representatives coordinated through the IM process.

As a specialist in Risk Management, the incumbent will also support of the compliance program in regards to contract compliance, accreditation standards, policy coordination and legislative compliance, ensuring practices are aligned with current industry standards. In the performance of duties, the Risk Manager Coordinator will work closely with a diverse group of leaders, as well as front line staff members from across the organization.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a health related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer may also be considered.
  • Demonstration of progressive leadership experience in healthcare is required.
  • Licensed to work or ability to gain licensure in Nova Scotia as a paramedic or other health professional an asset.
  • Prior experience or certification in risk management preferred.
  • Prior experience in the authoring and coordination of policy is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a workplace health and safety role considered an asset.
  • Experience or education in Occupational Health and Safety Management, and/or patient safety considered an asset.
  • Experience in customer service and client relations is considered an asset.
  • Clinical experience considered an additional asset.
  • Experience with electronic patient care records and medical communications data required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills are required.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem solve with discretion.
  • Displays an aptitude for collaboration and consensus building skills: leads team members by example and practices good time management.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and a sound knowledge of EHS operations policies required.
  • Ability to perform risk identification and analysis.
  • Knowledge of EMS management.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, database navigation and information technology is considered an asset.
