FACULTY OF NURSING

The Faculty of Nursing has a newly-developed research program surrounding Palliative and Supportive Care. The primary research project is to plan and scale up a formal palliative program in long-term care homes across the province.

Salary Range: $62,997 - $81,893 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Program Manager provides critical leadership to the research program. The Research Program Manager is responsible for directing all day-to-day operations about all functions and activities in the research program. The focus of this role is on leadership and human relations, including building strong relationships with sector partners.

  • Provide advice on all aspects of the research program to the Principal Investigator.
  • Identify opportunities and collaborate with the research team on funding proposals.
  • Conceptualize and decides program strategies, plans, protocols, and processes.
  • Develop and implement a plan that includes creative, comprehensive, efficient, and scalable strategies.
  • Analyze problematic situations and occurrences.
  • Create new paths, creative strategies, and decisions to address/respond to complex problems in the face of challenges and barriers.
  • Direct and independently makes decisions about all day-to-day operations, functions, and activities.
  • Communicate and ensure adherence to the daily research program activities and long-term plans to existing ethical, legal, and funding policies.
  • Develop, implement and direct the measurement, monitoring, and evaluation of all research program activities to assess and ensure impact.
  • Delegate responsibilities and supervise the team while maintaining high morale and motivation.
  • Develop and maintain new relationships. Interact with stakeholders, partners, and internal/external authorities that are critical to the achievement of program goals.
  • Act as the main contact day-to-day contact person for the program.
  • Conceptualize communication needs for the program. Develop, implement, and direct communication strategies through multiple media/forums.
  • Act as the public speaker and public relations representative for the program to strengthen the program's profile and achieve goals.
  • Implement new, innovative models for health/social service delivery and organization.
  • Analyze, problem-solve, and respond effectively to tension, conflict, and unpredictable crises between stakeholders, sectors, and the research program's goals.
  • Identify staffing needs for the program. Recruit and hire personnel.
  • Build an effective team of leaders. Provide guidance, direction, and coach team and staff.
  • Conceptualize and develop criteria to create a provincial palliative panel/board. Recruit members and coordinate the development of mission, values, and terms of reference.
  • Develop financial plans. Direct and control the program's total budget.
  • Identify and negotiates with professional organizations/associations (e.g., Pallium Canada, Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association).

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A completed university degree in Business Health Administration or a related discipline.
  • Five (5) years in a director or senior leadership position with significant responsibility for human and financial resources.

Additional Strengths

  • A graduate-level degree is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in long-term care and managing relationships with health, social and/or governmental organizations. Knowledge of laws and acts governing long-term care and healthcare funding.
  • Experience with start-up or transitioning a program/organization.
  • Experience with financial management.
  • Experience developing methods for measurement.
  • Ability to problem-solve innovative solutions in complex situations involving multiple partners.
  • Strong networking skills, along with a knowledge of target-message communications through different media.
  • Development of comprehensive business and/or research strategies, plans, and protocols.
  • Superior organization and leadership abilities. Able to lead diverse teams.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and use conceptual/abstract thinking.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with office software. This includes Microsoft O365, Zoom, SPSS, NVIVO, LimeSurvey, etc.
