Position: Program Manager, Academic Field Schools and Exchanges (Contract to May 2019)

Department: Faculty of Arts

Annual Salary: $50,000 - $54,500 + 4% in lieu of vacation

Under the authority of the Dean of Arts, the priorities, initiatives and activities of the Program Manager will be supervised by the Associate Dean of Arts (Curriculum and Student Affairs). The Program Manager is responsible for working with the Associate Dean of Arts (Curriculum and Student Affairs), Chairs and Coordinators, faculty leaders of field schools and exchanges to support the building and strengthening strategic partnerships with partner post-secondary institutions and various organizations and communities related to these experiences. The Program Manager will be responsible for marketing related to field schools and exchanges and will be the primary point of contact for seeking program information or advising. In addition, the Manager will help support the academic aspects of field schools and exchanges to ensure that all academic experiences are aligned with university policies and the academic mission of the university.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Project Manager, Academic Field Schools and Exchanges include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the maintenance and expansion of relationships with respect to field schools (including language schools) and exchanges.
  • Exploring and assisting in the establishment of new academic field schools and exchanges in consultation with faculty members, and academic administrators, including staff in International Mobility and the Office of the Registrar and Associate Vice-President Enrollment Management as appropriate.
  • Assisting in identifying prospective students by organizing information sessions and visiting classes to promote specific field schools and exchanges.
  • Working closely with the Associate Deans, academic departments and programs, and supporting them in their efforts to develop field schools and exchanges.
  • Consulting with relevant personnel in other Faculties as appropriate.
  • Working closely with the Communications Officer to develop and implement marketing strategies.
  • Working closely with the Communication Officer to collect and communicate field experiences to assist with the engagement of current Saint Mary's students and liaising with Recruitment to highlight opportunities for incoming students.
  • Liaising with International Mobility to ensure that students and faculty members are aware of practical matters related to international travel, including safety and security.
  • Working closely with the Academic Advisors to identity student opportunities related to specific programs.
  • Working closely with the Academic Advisors to build upon the relationship with BNU (Zhuhai) in order to facilitate Saint Mary's student participation in the BNUZ summer exchange program.
  • Working on relationships with existing or potential partner organizations, including other universities, communities, and partner organizations.
  • Participating in Faculty Open Houses.

What you'll need

Qualifications

As the successful Program Manager you will possess an undergraduate degree with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience or a graduate degree and two (2) years of related experience. You will demonstrate excellent writing and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills; and the ability to work independently, but also as part of a team. Knowledge of academic programs and regulations, knowledge of the opportunities and challenges of field schools and exchanges in an academic setting and the ability to work cross-culturally will round out your success in this position.

The ideal candidate will also be an energetic individual, with the ability to work with a broad cross-section of stakeholders (including students, professors, administrators, and others). The ideal candidate will work primarily on the campus but will undertake periodic travel to support specific activities and will also be required to work outside of normal working hours from time-to-time.
