Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia (DFNS) is an organization that is producer-funded and led by an elected board which provides regulatory and administrative services to Nova Scotia's dairy producers. Working in cooperation with Natural Products Marketing Council, DFNS licenses producers and milk transporters, sets the farm price for milk, and administers the production quota system, which is a cornerstone of the supply management system. DFNS also represents the province's close to 200 producer/members on numerous regional and national committees. The majority of the over 200 million litres of high-quality milk produced by these farms each year is processed within the province.

We are currently looking for a Producer Services Manager to join our team. The Producer Services Manager leads DFNS producer communications initiatives and is the first point of contact for members seeking advice or regulatory support for matters related to the administration of their quota, as well as other programs and services offered by DFNS.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Receive applications for new producer licenses and license transfers
  • Provide production and quota leasing advice and calculations
  • Process applications received under the catastrophe policy
  • Administer milk quality and other penalty program letters, shutoffs and board reviews
  • Administer New Entrant Program
  • Coordinate Certificate of Interest data collection
  • Write, edit and layout monthly newsletter
  • Compose text for direct producer emails and other written communications
  • Send invalid fresh sample notifications to producers
  • Draft various correspondence for Board/Chair/General Manager
  • Provide support for milk committee meetings (in-person and virtual), including scheduling, booking facilities, setting agendas and writing background materials
  • Collaborate with team on various special projects, sometimes leading project

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Administration, Business or Agriculture
  • 5 years' experience in a senior administrative role
  • Proven communication and organizational skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated to work independently and as a cohesive team member
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Dairy industry knowledge is an asset
  • Experience in a regulated industry is an asset

Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia

Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia (DFNS) provides a regulatory and administrative service to Nova Scotia's dairy producers including but not limited to licensing producers, setting milk prices, administering the production quota system and representing the producers on various committees.

DFNS has approximately 215 members located on farms from Port Morien to Yarmouth. Together, they produce over 200,000,000 litres of high-quality milk each year. This represents revenue at the farm of approximately $150,000,000 per year, and over 600 on-farm jobs.

The majority of the milk is processed in the province, and the province's five processors and two producer/processors make fluid milk and cream, yogurt, ice cream, a variety of cheese, and skim milk powder.
