We are seeking a Principal Design Engineer to join our team. The primary purpose of this role to explore new product development as it relates to Kraken's fleet of underwater vehicles. This role has a heavy design and implementation focus with an additional emphasis on understanding market needs, interacting with existing customers and nurturing new prospects.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate new product development for subsea exploration
  • Develop and administer detailed product development schedules
  • Monitor and report status of ongoing product development cycles to senior managers and primary customer stakeholders
  • Interface with interdepartmental stakeholders and partners to successfully execute plans
  • Develop a manufacturing plan to reduce the cost and time associated with the production
  • Develop and execute a plan for new product integration
  • Plan and undertake sea trials, including the analysis of the gathered data
  • Continuously monitor technological advances with potential benefits to existing products or facilitating new applications

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is required
  • Minimum 15 to 20 years experience in an ocean technology design role
  • Knowledge of and experience with passive acoustic sonar technologies including:
    • Hydrophone & Pre-Amplifier design and integration
    • Digitisation and telemetry strategies in large aperture sonar arrays
    • Design and integration of miniature low-noise, low-power electronic systems
    • Non-acoustic sensor integration
    • Flow noise minimisation strategies
    • Broadband and narrowband sonar processing techniques
  • Professional engineering designation or certification
  • FPGA and embedded software development experience
  • Above average organizational skills and ability to work effectively on several projects concurrently
  • Incredibly strong verbal and written communications skills in English is required
  • Demonstrated ability working in a team environment and the ability to lead a team
  • Engineering or solid technical or manufacturing background preferred
  • Experience working with military contracts would be an asset
  • NATO SC Clearance will be necessary to undertake this role
