Purpose of Position:

Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Power Engineer is responsible for but not limited to, the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the refrigeration and boiler systems at our Highland Fisheries plant in Glace Bay, NS.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to: Chief Engineer

Duties & Accountabilities (Responsibilities):

  • Operate Refrigeration Room equipment. Start / stop equipment as required. (Record logging of equipment every 2 hrs.)
  • Help with refrigeration room equipment maintenance.
  • Compressor overhauls; motor change outs, oil changes
  • Condenser repairs / maintenance ( belts, motors, water sprays)
  • Repairs to pumps (seals, coupling etc.)
  • Draining oil from system
  • Refrigeration Room(s) Housekeeping
  • Preventative Maintenance (SAP System)

BOILER ROOM

  • Operate Boiler Room equipment. Start / Stop as required. (Daily boiler chemical testing)
  • Maintenance & repairs of boilers
  • Yearly cleaning of boilers(dismantle & reassemble) for D.O.L. inspections ( extremely dirty work)
  • Boiler feed water repairs & maintenance (seal, bearing replacement, etc.)
  • Fuel Oil pump repairs & maintenance.
  • Receive Light Oil fuel ( No.2) deliveries
  • Engine Room Housekeeping
  • Preventative Maintenance (SAP System)

ICE HOUSE

  • Operate, maintain & repairs to ice making and ice delivery system

CRAB PRODUCTION/MAIN PLANT

  • Drain oil from ammonia system after hours and or on weekends.
  • Prepare Equipment for production. Start / stop/ defrost .Repairs to evaporators (fans, solenoid, etc.)
  • Respond to ammonia leaks
  • Respond to temperature issues relating to freezers/chill tank etc.
  • Monitor cold storage glycol floor heating system.
  • Operate, maintain, repairs to plant AHU system.

CLAM PRODUCTION

  • Operate, maintain, repairs to Freon refrigeration system.
  • Monitor Process room temperatures, adjust as required.
  • Operate, maintain, repairs to Service Air Compressors.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Security (open /close gates after hours) Respond to after-hours visitors, employees, trucks to open / close gates
  • Monitor / respond to fire alarms though out the plant during regular and after hours
  • Other related duties as required

Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Fisheries, Glace Bay
  • Travel: None
  • Physical Demands: 24/7 operation - 12 hr shifts
  • Environment: Cold, hot, damp, noise
  • Schedule: 24/7 continous operation, 12 hr shift

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Computer training is asset
  • 3rd Class Standardized Power Engineer Ticket or 4th Class Standardized Power Engineer Ticket + 2nd Class Refrigeration Plant Operator Ticket
