Port Saint John is part of the critical transportation infrastructure of Canada and a cornerstone of the New Brunswick economy. Port Saint John is Atlantic Canada's largest port by volume and has a diverse cargo base, handling 30 million metric tonnes of cargo annually, including dry and liquid bulks, break bulk, containers, and cruise.

Port Saint John is seeking a Port Engineer to manage the Engineering team to ensure large scale critical infrastructure within the port is maintained and upgraded in accordance with the Port's long-term goals while working within the regulatory framework of the Canada Marine Act and other associated legislation.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Director of Infrastructure and Asset Management, the Port Engineer will be responsible for the following:

- Provide leadership, coordination and management of the Engineering team comprised of an Engineering Technologist, an Engineer, Administrative support, and students;

- Provide leadership on long term engineering priorities;

- Update and maintain the Port's Lifecycle Asset Management Plan in the Port's complex and dynamic natural environment;

- Preparing tender documents and contracts, ensure that the tendering process is carried out in accordance with the Port's procurement guidelines, and review suitability of tender submissions during opening.

- Provide consultation on specialized cargo projects such as heavy lifts which will require a high degree of structural analysis;

- Strategically manage the annual capital budget;

- Implement formalized systems and processes (including technology) to more effectively manage the day to day engineering functions and the Port's long-term strategic goals;

- Manage various inspection programs to monitor structural state of our assets;

- Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need

Qualifications

- Professional Engineer designation in good standing;

- Competed Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent (Civil Engineering preferred);

- Minimum 7-10 years of related engineering experience with at least 2 years of experience managing a team;

- Proficient in modern and innovative technology in the engineering field;

- Experience using standard engineering software and systems such as AutoCAD and GIS;

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

- Understanding and experience using safe work practices;

- Eligible to receive a Transport Canada Security Clearance R2.
