Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. 

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

Nature and Scope:

The Policy and Standards Coordinator shall be responsible for the coordination, implementation, administration and organization of policies, procedures, guidelines and other associated documentation within EMC. This shall include researching, drafting, working with key stakeholders, formatting, obtaining approvals and the organization of these important documents and coordinating implementation.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Coordination of Policy & Standards Processes

· Provide coordination, administrative and organizational support to EMC's Policy Advisory Group

· Work with leadership staff and working groups, provide coordination and organizational support for the development, finalization, approval and dissemination of policies, procedures and guidelines (e.g., Safe Work Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures) in a consistent and coordinated manner.

· Maintain standard document formatting and consistent use of terminology within documentation through the coordination of EMC's Master Definition List and Policy Style Guide.

· Maintain awareness of policy requirements for contractual, accreditation and other requirements.


Coordinate the Development and Updating of Policies, Procedures and other Standards

  • Conduct research or legislation reviews in support of working groups to inform policies and standards.
  • Facilitate policy, procedure and guideline development and revision activities, including coordination of development activities as applicable.

Ensure Policies and Standards are Effectively Communicated

  • Use standardized approaches for communicating policies and standards. Periodically evaluate these approaches to ensure they are effective, in collaboration with Corporate Communications.

Accreditation Administration and Preparation

  • Understand accreditation standards and work with responsible staff to ensure documents are completed, organized and prepared well for accreditation submission.

Standards and Compliance

  • Coordinate as required with researching and drafting documents in response to compliance and audits, under the direction of the responsible manager.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Must possess a post-secondary education in a healthcare or business related field from a recognized university, academic institution, or business college.
  • At least four years of related policy experience or equivalent amount of education and experience, experience in healthcare would be an asset.
  • Computer literacy is required, including ability to work in databases and online software.
  • Strong writing and analysis skills with attention to detail are required
  • Very strong administrative and organizational skills required
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications is required, with advanced skills in MS Word
  • The ability to work as a team member is a necessity in this work environment.
  • Effective written and presentation skills.
  • Experience exercising discretion in the decision making process by following guidelines and processes.
  • Experience in a health care organization is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with and authoring policies, procedures and guidelines a strong asset.
