As a Planning and Design Technologist, you will be responsible for the preparation and management of design information related to the division's community master planning and design initiatives. Working closely with colleagues within the Planning and Engineering Teams, the Technologist will provide design support throughout the land development process with emphasis on preparing graphics that best illustrate design intentions. The opportunity is for someone to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, focusing on creating professional planning material for municipal government, private, and non-profit stakeholders. The role emphasizes technical drawing, design collaboration, and creative visuals using various industry-standard software tools.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

• Preparation of technical and conceptual drawings (colour plans, maps, diagrams) using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator in support of municipal applications.

• Review and ensure compliance of designs with relevant by-laws, building codes, design guidelines, and municipal standards.
• Creating general visual aids to support business objectives through sales and marketing.
• Research materials and methods to solve design challenges creatively and efficiently.
• Ability to shift focus as needed and manage multiple projects.

What you'll need

Qualifications

• Diploma in Cartography and Geovisualization, Drafting-Architectural, Planning or related education / work experience.
• Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Adobe Suite or related software.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work across disciplines.
• Working knowledge of the subdivision planning and design theories and practices related to residential construction projects and general understanding of the land development process or willingness to learn.
• Knowledge of 3D modeling/rendering software: SketchUp, Lumion, Revit is an advantage.
• Hand-sketching / drawing abilities.
• Experience with commercial and residential site design.
• Architectural design and colour theory.
