Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. 

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians every day. We achieve this through more than 1,400 employees, including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers, and support staff.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Pension and Benefits, the Pension Administrator will perform administration functions and annual and periodic processing of EMC's Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit Pension Plans. The administrator will liaison and work in partnership with the plan administrators to ensure compliance and accuracy.

  • Being the primary contact for all pension inquiries from employees, management and outside pension carriers.
  • Ensuring the administration of the company pension programs complies in accordance with government regulations and company policy/procedures while keeping the Manager of Pension & Benefits aware of any concerns or complex issues that arise.
  • Processing employee changes with pension-related: new hires, job changes, terminations, retirements, leaves, and employee personal information changes.
  • Completing regular audits.
  • Reconciling the monthly invoices and bi-weekly pension remittances and remitting the payments to the company carriers within the required vendor deadline.
  • Calculating and entering payroll adjustments as needed.
  • Completing the year-end reconciliation process for the Defined Benefit Pension plan(s).
  • Remaining current with industry trends and other pertinent information for each pension program assigned.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • University degree or college diploma in a related field: business, mathematics, administration
  • 3 years or more of pension and/or benefits administration experience
  • Experience administering Defined Benefit Pension Plans strongly preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite: Excel and Word with advanced spreadsheet manipulation skills are critical to be successful in this role
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to audit and reconcile large amounts of data
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with pension administration systems and/or HRIS a strong asset
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, solve problems and meet deadlines while functioning well as part of a team
  • Client services orientation
