FINANCIAL SERVICES (PAYROLL TEAM)

UNB Payroll Services consists of a staff of 4, including the Manager, and are part of the Financial Services Team. We serve over 3000 employees and work in a busy fast-paced environment. We take pride in providing a high level of service to our UNB community to ensure they are paid timely and accurately. Payroll successfully runs two separate bi-weekly pays, Salary (which is automated) and Timesheet (TS) - which is entered by employees using a Self-Serve Time Entry system.

Standard Work Hours:

Mon - Fri | 7:45 am - 4:00 pm (Summer Hours); 8:15 am - 4:30 pm (Winter Hours) | 36.25 hours per week

Salary Range: $44,461 - $55,807 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Administrator processes various functions for the bi-weekly payroll run(s) for any person paid through the HR/Payroll module, inputs payroll deductions such as tuition fees and United Way, conducts post-payroll verification, produces Records of Employment, and completes administrative tasks.

  • Prepare Receiver General remittance.
  • Verify, prepare, and enter various payroll deductions.
  • Prepare ROEs and answer queries from El representatives.
  • Execute audit-type reports to review for payroll errors.
  • Maintain TD1 information, address changes, and banking information on employees.
  • Perform pay adjustments as necessary.
  • Provide effective communication to the university community on the completion of time entry.
  • Provide direct front-line support to employees and agency inquiries regarding payroll issues for both campuses. Respond to difficult customers in a calm, tactful and diplomatic manner.
  • Provide knowledgeable answers to T4/T4A inquiries.
  • Complete EI inquiries sent to verify income earned to claims made by employees.
  • Balance and distribute both the bi-weekly and timesheet payroll reports to external stakeholders.
  • Enter late timesheet data.
  • Verify the timesheet data and submit changes. Check for unapproved hours before final payroll processing.
  • Process Time sheet pay as required.
  • Various administrative tasks. Other tasks as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary education in a recognized payroll/accounting program.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in HR/Payroll administration working in a computerized environment.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute (NPI), or willingness to obtain certification within a reasonable period, is required.

Additional Strengths

  • A high aptitude for math and attention to detail is required.
  • Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency guidelines as they pertain to payroll.
  • Ability to work under pressure and achieve deadlines while maintaining high attention to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Skilled use of MS Office products, particularly Excel.
