Position Summary

We are hiring an individual who lives by our corporate values of Heart, Integrity and Drive to fill the position of Paralegal. In this role, you will provide first-class legal support to our team and excel at providing top quality work while thinking independently and being proactive in anticipating the needs of the legal department. Reporting directly to our Chief Legal Officer, your time with FMI's close-knit legal team will be fast paced, challenging, and rewarding.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Providing first-class legal support to our Chief Legal Officer, including drafting documents and correspondence
  • Providing corporate governance, legal entity management, minute book management and board-level support
  • Playing a key role in coordinating our risk management portfolio, including regular interaction with our brokers and understanding the various insurance coverages in place
  • Assisting our Chief Legal Officer with implementing best-in-class contracting practices throughout the organization
  • Communicating and negotiating with service providers of the company throughout North America
  • Assisting our Chief Legal Officer in developing and then assuming responsibility for a North American contract database
  • Serving an important role in our constant merger and acquisition activities
  • Performing various administrative duties including, but not limited to organizing and managing files, tracking dates and inputting data into the legal department's tracking tools
  • Proactively anticipating the needs of the legal department and the company

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and grammar skills with attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Superior critical thinking skills coupled with strong problem solving skills
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Time management skills with a demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Graduate of a Paralegal diploma program or significant work experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Exceptional computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new software quickly
  • A positive team player with a 'can-do' attitude who is committed to excellence, interested in stretching their professional abilities, and passionate about continuous improvement
