POSITION: Painter (CUPE Local 4491) 2 Temporary, Full-time positions 

ASSIGNMENT: Start Date: April 23, 2019 - End Date: August 30, 2019

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management

SALARY: $22.89 per hour + 4% Vacation Pay

The Painter works under the supervision of the Manager, Maintenance & Operations and the direction of the Lead Carpenter. The Painter prepares surfaces for painting, repairs plaster, and paints or finishes all internal and external surfaces as required.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Painter include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and performing preventative maintenance (PM) routines for all repairs of walls and painting maintenance.
  • Cleaning and preparing surfaces for painting.
  • Repairing and refinishing walls, doors, and other surfaces.
  • Working closely with any outside agency that is required to plaster, paint, finish or refinish surfaces and using such collaboration to enhance knowledge.
  • Assisting other maintenance staff in painting or resurfacing finishes.
  • Establishing a good working knowledge of all plaster, paint, and finish surfaces, and products.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Painter you will be a Certified Painting Tradesperson with two (2) years of recent and related experience in construction or maintenance or a Certified tradesperson with five (5) years of recent and related direct experience painting in construction or maintenance. You demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment; the ability to communicate effectively in a positive manner when conveying and responding to information; and perform all duties in a safe manner, by following health and safety legislation and all required safe work practices and procedures, in order to minimize the risk of injury and property damage. You will further interact with customers in a positive way; have the ability to work alone and complete tasks with minimal supervision; and demonstrate initiative in completing tasks.
