WHAT WE OFFER
Full-Time | Continuing | Fredericton | On-Campus
Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 7:30 am - 4:00 pm | 40 hours per week
Additional Working Conditions:
- The nature of the work will vary, depending on the task, and may be in or outdoors under varying conditions.
- The work may involve working at high levels from scaffolding, ladders, or mechanical lifts.
- Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the trade including the ability, on occasion, to lift heavy objects, and work from ladders or in cramped quarters or confined spaces.
Salary Range: $27.17 per hour
An unlicensed painter may be considered, and will be at the rate of $24.90 per hour.
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Paint Shop Foreperson, this Painter & Decorator position is skilled maintenance and repair work in the painting and decorating trade at the journeyperson level.
- Work as a painter and decorator alone or as a member of a crew employed on maintenance and construction.
- Apply finishes to exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of buildings and equipment with a brush roller, spray gun, sponge, or rag.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, repainting, or decorating.
- Erect scaffolding, ladders, or other equipment to safety standards for work at heights.
- Mix paint according to colour or other characteristics.
- Measure, match, install/re-install, and trim paper and other fabrics or materials.
- Use all tools and equipment safely.
- Perform drywall finishing and veneer plastering.
- Prepare job estimates as to the quantity of labour and materials required to complete the job, as needed.
- Allocate and supervise the work of Trades helpers and/or Labourers, as required.
- Perform elementary duties of another trade to expedite the completion of the assigned task.
- Apply safety precautions, as may be required, to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
- Responsible for the care and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Formal basic education as required by the NB Department of Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour to meet Journeyperson standards for the Painter and Decorator Trade.
- Must possess a valid current license to practice the Painting and Decorating Trade in the Province of New Brunswick.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the National Building Code, and the New Brunswick Health and Safety Act.
- A combination of the above education and experience may be considered.
Additional Strengths:
- 3 years of diversified experience at the Journeyperson level in the Painting Trade with a concentration on maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and to work from sketches with diagrams.
- Ability to work with other tradespeople.
- Versatility in handling and use of tools of the trade.
