St. Thomas University is implementing a custom framework for international mobility orientation and is seeking an individual with instructional design experience to create an online module for the pre-departure training that will be completed by all students participating in an international experience.

Casual Contract - 10 weeks (20-25 hours per week)

Responsibilities

The Outbound Mobility Online Program Developer reports to the International Student Coordinator and will review the International Mobility Orientation Framework. The framework recognizes the critical role of pre-departure and re-entry preparation in equipping students with the tools to identify and complete international exchange, travel study and internship opportunities with maximized skill development and benefits. The framework encompasses elements of self-reflection, logistical preparation, intercultural preparedness and safety and security.

The Program Developer will determine the scope of the educational project, identify learning objectives, create the layout of instructional material, develop audio, visual and interactive media aids, and finally plan and create assessments and reflection activities.

The Program Developer will create accessible and inclusive online learning to meet the unique needs of international travelers. Assess and assign the delivery format best suited for each module (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, etc.) and will test modules with identified priority groups, adjusting where necessary to ensure learning outcomes for diverse learners. The Program Developer will work closely with the International Student Coordinator and other university stakeholders throughout the development process.

What you'll need

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a bachelor's degree
  • Preference for education and training in Instructional Design, Education, or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Have experience in International Education.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years' experience working in e-learning, converting in-person teaching materials into an online course.
  • Have experience working within a Learning Management System, ideally Moodle.
  • Be highly analytical and possess creative and intuitive problem-solving ability.
  • Be able to communicate ideas and concepts clearly and accurately.
  • Have excellent writing and editing skills, be highly attentive to details and be able to manage time accordingly.
  • Know how to use software applications such as word processor, database management, and presentation software.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver on project timelines and deadlines.

Established in 1910, St. Thomas University is a primarily undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a full-time enrolment of 1600 that offers a Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work and a Master of Social Work.
