New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is committed to transforming lives and communities. The College is currently seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Mobile & Ubiquitous Computing Research Program Manager (1 year term).

What you will be working on:
Collaborating under the leadership of the College's Industrial Research Chair, the Research Program Manager will work with researchers, technicians, assistants, faculty and students, specifically managing and supporting applied research in digital technologies. The research program will include capabilities related to mobile and ubiquitous computing; user experience (UX) testing and development; the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT); and the integration of 5G edge computing, positioning, and mmWave technologies.
The Manager will regularly consult with partners in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector and relevant government, community, and other stakeholders to identify existing needs and barriers. This will involve engaging workers, administrators, academic experts and others within the ICT sector to identify problems and needs resulting in the development and implementation of applied research projects. The Manager will help the Chair establish a comprehensive project management process. They will organize and manage the research projects, including budgets, operating plans, human resources, evaluation and reporting. They will also support course-based research initiatives, in alignment with industry needs and priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
Program Development & Sustainability
- Consulting and engaging stakeholders within the sector.
- Determining needs and problems within the sector by program area.
- Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities for sustainability of the program and specific priority research initiatives through collaborative proposal development.
- Establishing and managing a comprehensive project management process including partner consultation, technology intelligence scans, schedule tracking, and progress reporting
- Organizing project activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the Industrial Research Chair in MUC research program.
Project Management
- Developing new project plans based on partner needs and the strategic direction of the college and MUC research program.
- Developing and managing project budgets and the overall research program budget.
- Developing and implementing an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
- Analyzing and mitigating program risks.
- Implementing and managing changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved.
- Developing and implementing a strategy to create greater awareness and promote the MUC research program in collaboration with the Marketing team.
- Managing applied research projects based on community priorities and alignment with strategic goals of NBCC and the Government of New Brunswick - e.g., preparing funding applications; engaging partners and collaborators; ensuring appropriate resources are available and assigned; ensuring projects comply with protocols; ensuring project findings/results are disseminated.
- Supporting course-based applied research - providing education, guidance and advice on project planning and management, research methodology, ethical conduct of research, etc.
- Drafting and submitting reports and policy briefs to partners and stakeholders as applicable
- Preparing required reports to funding agencies and college.
Leadership/ Management
- Collaborating with the college community on strategic and operational plans, and other activities that address the goals of NBCC.
- Providing guidance on the development of other applied research centers, including Cybersecurity.
- Collaborating with the Chair to fulfill management and administrative requirements, including hiring, performance management, and budget/financial monitoring.
- Managing a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
- Ensuring goals are met in areas including customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and team member performance.
What we are looking for:
- Diploma/Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Preference may be given to those with a PhD or research-based Master's degree in the relevant discipline.
- Recent and related work experience
- Experience must include project management, research/problem-solving methods.
- A valid driver's license and ability to travel within the province is required.
- Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a post-secondary environment.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.
