Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and TeleHealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

Reporting to the Logistics & System Support Supervisor, the System Support Vehicle Driver Transporter is a key part of the System Support team that provides vehicle movement pertaining to system vehicle repair, maintenance and other duties as assigned.

The Transporter is expected to conduct him/herself in a safe and prudent manor. The Transporter will be largely responsible to ensure ambulances are transported to the designated fleet centers and/or stations as assigned.

This position has the opportunity for alternate duties in logistics and system support. Alternate duties would include being responsible to ensure all medical supply stations are safe, effective and maintained, cleaned and stocked in in accordance with policies and procedures as stated by EMC and EHSNS.

The Transporter will be on an on-call basis and will take direction from the Logistics & System Support Supervisor alternate SST Lead or Fleet Manager.

Responsibilities

The position entails, but is not limited to the following:

  • Interact professionally at all times with EMC and EHS stakeholders
  • Operate all system and company vehicles in accordance with Nova Scotia laws as well as all applicable Policies and Procedures of EMC and EHS
  • Demonstrate and display excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrate good decision-making skills and takes initiative as needed
  • Ensure vehicles that are transported to bases are washed down of road debris
  • Any other duties assigned

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Complete and Retain a Nova Scotia Class 4 Driver's License (in good standing order)
  • Have the ability to work a flexible schedule as shifts vary
  • Acquire and maintain certification in WHMIS
  • Successfully complete the EMC Driving Safety Program
  • Successful completion of orientation program as defined for the role specific to Safety Programs including PPE and Safe Work Practice Policies
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and demonstrate good interpersonal skills in dealing with people and working in groups.
  • Has the ability to work alone with minimal supervision. Exercises a degree of discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
