The Marketing and Communications Advisor will shape and manage the Build Nova Scotia brand by developing and executing corporate marketing strategies for all business lines including but not limited to the organization's collateral, signage, advertising campaigns, social media, sponsorship, project support, promotion of community engagement related to development projects and clothing. This individual will be the main agency point of contact and will support marketing for a variety of Build Nova Scotia projects, including Halifax Waterfront events, healthcare infrastructure, Internet for Nova Scotia Initiative, Cellular for Nova Scotia Program and environmental remediation. The incumbent will develop or support the marketing strategy as appropriate and identify, negotiate, leverage, and activate all sponsorships. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing the annual tenant marketing plan in alignment with the corporate marketing plan, including management of the Tenant Marketing Fund. This position will influence, and at times lead market research activities and programs.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

The following are key responsibility areas for this position:

BRAND

  • Identify Corporate Events and Sponsorships that align with the Build Nova Scotia mandate and brand.
  • Monitor the creation and execution of all social, digital, and presentation materials as the primary content strategist and copy editor.
  • Guide the Marketing and Communications Officer in creating and refining social media strategies, mapping, and contributing to editorial calendars, and ensuring alignment with the Build Nova Scotia brand.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies - all business lines and sub-brands, including Halifax Waterfront.
  • Agency point-of-contact for all work involving third party agencies on corporate campaigns and larger-scale projects.
  • Manage organization's collateral signage, advertising, promotional campaigns, clothing, brand execution and templates.
  • Manage campaigns related to public engagement - signage, promotion, media buy, surveys and engagement pop-ups.
  • Guide the implementation of digital tools to enhance communication and business functions (DAM, Survey Monkey, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Media Monitoring, CRM, etc.).

SIGNAGE

  • Design, implement and traffic all signage requests for owned properties in Halifax, Lunenburg, and Peggy's Cove - marine, safety, maintenance, wayfinding and promotional.
  • Create and implement a long-term signage strategy for the Halifax waterfront, working closely with partners and stakeholders.

EVENTS

  • Member of internal committee vetting all events and programming opportunities (puts the brand lens on opportunities).
  • Based on dollar value of hosting & services, negotiates, executes, and leverages sponsorships.
  • Promotes and markets all events & programming, plans and oversees social media calendar utilizing appropriate channels.
  • Ensures events & programming are listed on all appropriate calendars (Discover Halifax).
  • Arranges for logos, imagery etc. for signage and video displays.
  • Ensures visuals / video of events & programming are captured.
  • Works with partners (BIDS, DMOs, etc.) to leverage and cross-promote programming and events.
  • Develops and executes all advertising associated with sponsorships and events/programming.
  • Manage sponsor benefits, such as receptions, tickets, etc. (i.e. Jazz Fest reception)
  • Evaluate and make recommendations re: additional sponsorship (cash / additional services), where there is brand alignment, opportunity to showcase diversity and inclusion, under-represented communities, etc.
  • Sits on marketing/communications/promotional committees for larger events (Evergreen Festival, TD Halifax Jazz Fest, etc.)
  • Ensure corporate website is up to date with all relevant programming and event news.
  • Develop corporate events strategy; identify, negotiate & leverage all sponsorships.
  • Responsible for corporate event vetting and management related to Build Nova Scotia events including public consultation, community engagement, and select annual events.

TENANT MARKETING

  • Responsible for development and implementation of the annual tenant marketing plan in partnership with the Business Development and Program Manager to support corporate marketing objectives including management of the Tenant Marketing Fund (events, activations, media partners, property improvement projects, promotion of Salt Yard).
  • Tenant Marketing Committee lead - manage and maintain relationship with all tenants.
  • Work with the team on Sparkle items (games, small property improvements).
  • Manage the Tenant Marketing Co-op Program.

WEB

  • Agency point-of-contact, managing all large-scale web changes and requests, as well as leading internal team auditing.
  • Responsibility for all online (website) analytics performance & enhancements.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • University degree in marketing, business, public relations, communications, or related field with a minimum of five (5) years related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship and events management.
  • Proven experience managing website, advertising, social media and digital content programs for a company or organization, including measurement, tracking and results will be key in this role.
  • Proven marketing or communications planning and execution that has produced tangible results.
  • Ability to effectively manage a high number of projects simultaneously and to ensure smooth working relationships with staff, partners, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Ability to assess priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining the daily flow of work.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and can translate market research into actionable plans and activate partnerships to drive results.
  • Time management skills with the ability to multi-task ongoing projects, manage issues as they arise, and juggle deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, creative and able to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience managing outside agencies or contracts is essential.
  • An eye for design is essential.
  • A driven, perpetually solution-based attitude.
