Halifax Water is hiring for the job of Manager of Accounting (Term, up to 12 months) in the Corporate Services Department. As a key member of the Corporate Services team, the Manager of Accounting will be responsible timely and accurate financial reporting, financial accounting, financial statements, revenue, and cash flow. The Manager will be responsible for development and implementation of accounting procedures and internal controls, fixed asset accounting, financial analyses, and annual audit. The Manager will Lead development and implementation of accounting policies and internal controls, be responsible for accounting for fixed assets, depreciation, capital cost contributions, and grants in accordance with regulatory and utility policies governing Halifax Water.

Responsibilities

As the Manager of Accounting, you will:

  • Be a self-motivated, driven individual who has a passion and demonstrated ability to lead research and development of strategies for corporate accounting, internal control, and process improvements and implement required changes ensuring strong internal control is maintained. Manage projects and initiatives and participate on committees as required.
  • Be part of Halifax Water's management team participating in a variety of management activities including hiring, performance management, discipline, budgeting, and labour relations matters such as collective agreement interpretation and changes as required.
  • Be responsible for the preparation of annual and longer-term budgets for operating revenue, non-operating revenue, depreciation, and non-operating expenses (debt servicing), and provide assistance as required with the preparation of water rate applications submitted for approval to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB).
  • Be the subject matter expert interpreting and ensuring compliance with Provincial Acts and Standards, Federal Legislation, NSUARB Accounting Manual, Utility Regulations, and policies and procedures governing the utility, such as IFRS, WCB, HST Legislation, Public Utilities Act, and Privacy Act.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for this position include a post-secondary degree in business, public administration or related field, as well as a professional accounting designation (CPA). In addition, five years of broad and progressively more senior experience in financial management and general office administration, preferably in a utility or customer oriented operation.

Salary range for this job is $84,800 to $106,000.
