The role of the Manager is to contribute to the strategic leadership of NSCAD University Ancillary and Retail services and to provide operational leadership to the Ancillary Services teams in support of the strategic plans of NSCAD University and its stakeholders.
The Manager, Service Centre and School Store is responsible for overseeing the NSCAD Art Supply Store, the Copy + Print Service Centre and Ancillary Services functions (including payment terminals, food services and vending, ID Cards, Access Cards, etc.) consistent with strategic priorities.

The Manager is responsible for the establishment of strategic revenue, expense, and contribution targets, providing strategic sales and marketing direction, monitoring activities and results, coaching for performance success, reviewing project and program budgets to ensure viable operations, and managing collaborative and mutually rewarding partnerships with stakeholders both internal and external to the University. The Manager is specifically responsible for achieving earned net revenue targets in each specific revenue centre with a plan to grow year over year.

Responsibilities

Art Supply Store

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and functions of the Art Supply Store and assure smooth, functional, efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders to implement the vision and exhibit a strong service culture and orientation.
  • Utilize expert-level General Merchandise knowledge to execute strategic objectives, including allocation of floor space based on sales by department.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding and utilization of visual merchandising tools, such as signage, planograms, and fixtures.
  • Inventory management including but not limited to all operational budget management, procurement, oversight of inventory counts and controls by the Store Coordinator.

  • Creates and implements guidelines, standards, processes and systems to ensure overall excellence of program quality and organizational stability in collaboration with the CFO.

  • Promotion and sales at events for Alumni and Students including but not limited to the Art Awards, Graduation Ceremonies, and Orientation week.

  • Continued design and procurement of NSCAD Branded merchandise.

Service Centre

  • Hire, train and supervise staff.
  • Assist in cross training of Student Assistants between NSCAD Art Store and Service Centre.
  • Implement new ID/UPass system within existing infrastructure to reduce costs and combine credit options for students between campus operations.
  • Create campus communications about the Service + Print Centre for new, existing, and returning students, staff, and faculty.
  • Financial terminals - school wide management, training, and annual evaluation.

  • Coordinate effective, student-centred services with third-party vending providers ensuring appropriate coordination and integration.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 and formal training (University or Community College) in retail management combined with at least five (5) years related experience in retail and management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience supervising staff and managing a budget is required.
