The Department of Facilities Management invites applications for the position of Manager of Facilities Operations.

Classification: MPA, Level 6
Starting Salary: $69,872 per annum (Range: $69,872 to $85,011)
Start Date: February 1, 2019

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management, the Manager of Facilities Operations is responsible for the maintenance and operations for 16 buildings with over 650,000 square feet of building infrastructure situated on 38 acres of land. You'll be responsible for the management of services and processes that support the core business of the University. You'll ensure that best practices are followed for maximum efficiency and that the most suitable working environment is attained for its clients and activities. This position requires the supervision of multi-disciplinary teams and performance management of 16 permanent and part time staff. Depending on project size and complexity you will provide project management duties for alterations, renovations and new construction projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that all mechanical, electrical, central heating plant, specialized equipment, and building infrastructure is maintained and operated in accordance with applicable provincial codes and standards to ensure an interruption free operation which is safe and efficient.
  • Maximizes operating cost effectiveness which includes responsibility for purchasing, inventory control and provides financial advice associated with project planning and budget control.
  • Form and maintain effective working relationships with other university departments, provincial inspection agencies, contractors and suppliers.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Completion of a two-year Community College diploma with at least 8 years of related experience, which includes supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Previous experience within the University sector would be an asset but related work in Healthcare and schools would also be advantageous. Organizational ability and high level of attention to detail is a must in this position. Supporting all of these skills is a strong commitment to excellent customer service. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and have an aptitude for, or previous experience, using cloud based Maintenance Management Systems.
