The Department of Human Resources at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Manager, Human Resources.

Classification: MPA – Level 6
Starting Salary: $69,872 per annum
Start Date: ASAP

What you'll do

Responsibilities

The Human Resource Manager acts as the employee relations expert for all staff. Their responsibilities include building relationships with union representatives, participating in collective bargaining, managing grievances, handling conflict resolution and providing labour relations advice to supervising managers. The Manager will lead major HR initiatives and special projects, including attendance management, performance management, sick leave and disability management, and additional projects as required. The Manager will develop and deliver training programs to staff and managers. As the department's senior HR generalist, the Manager will coordinate activities including Job Evaluation, compensation review, discipline and dismissal, as well as providing coaching to HR staff. The Manager will work with department heads to oversee organizational design and analysis initiatives as required. The Manager is also responsible for inventorying all HR policies and ensuring all policies are consistently reviewed and conform to best practices.

The Manager will act as Director, Human Resources in the Director's absence and act as the lead human resources representative for various projects.

What you'll need

Qualifications

The ideal candidates will have a relevant undergraduate degree, have their Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, and will have five years' of progressive experience in the field of unionized Human Resources. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The Manager will have demonstrated experience in labour and employee relations, professional development and training, and in disability management. They will be a strong communicator, with solid organizational and presentation skills. This position requires a high degree of initiative and insight, as well as expertise in complex case management. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and have an aptitude for, or previous experience, using business enterprise systems such as Colleague, Banner, PeopleSoft, etc.
