The Department of Financial Services at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Manager of Financial Planning and Control.

  • Classification: Full-Time - MPA, Level 6
  • Salary Range: $70,000 to $85,000 per annum
  • Start Date: ASAP

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration, the Manager, Financial Planning & Control will have key responsibility for financial reporting and analysis and budget development and monitoring. This position generally acts for the Director in her absence.

  • prepares financial statements and other reports, including financial projections
  • develops key financial policies and control mechanisms
  • fills the role of subject matter expert and adviser to the community on tax issues (HST, GST, etc.)
  • develops, supports and monitors budgets
  • provides financial analysis and problem solving
  • oversees financial aspects of capital projects and related financing initiatives
  • assumes a leadership role in the annual audit preparations
  • supervises three staff members in the areas of budgeting, accounts payable, and general ledger maintenance
  • responsible for report writing in various software applications used by Finance (Colleague, Informer, Synoptix)
  • liaises with a wide variety of individuals both within the University and the external community
  • performs other duties from time to time

What you'll need

Qualifications

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree, preferably in Business, with a recognized accounting designation. A minimum of five years’ experience performing financial analysis, financial reporting and financial management, with at least one-year supervisory experience are also required. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator, be very organized, have strong technical accounting expertise and have the ability to make formal presentations and work within a team environment. This position requires a high degree of initiative, creativity, insight, and independence of action as well as a strong appreciation of the need for confidentiality. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills in excel and use of technology to conduct financial analysis in the most efficient manner. Experience in using business enterprise systems for finance is required.
