Under the direction of the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Manager Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is responsible for coordinating the annual budget process for Saint Mary's University and it's departments for the following funds: operating and internally restricted, capital and special projects, including monthly review or variances to ensure overall institutional budget targets and KPI metrics are achieved. This includes assisting in the preparation of the final budget presentation of materials for the Board of Governors.

The position is also responsible for:

  • Management of the long-range financial plans for Saint Mary's, accounting for key assumptions for each entity such as revenue growth, cost control targets, capital spend, strategic business initiatives, etc. and operating margin and cash flow projections.
  • Supervision and guidance of financial analysts that support all division at Saint Mary's which includes managing and improving financial reports, maintaining KPI reports, developing ad hoc reports, providing budget and cost variance analyses, assisting with Return on Investment (ROI) analyses for new business plans, and providing guidance to Department Chairs and Senior Management Group.
  • Preparation and maintenance of the peer review financial benchmarking reporting for the University sector which allows Saint Mary's to develop national and regional financial and other key benchmarks related to cost efficiency and financial planning initiatives.
  • Acting as a continuous improvement champion for the department and the University as support to the Director Financial Planning & Analysis and individually.

In the event that staff are working remotely, or asked to work remotely, during an event that does not allow staff to be on campus physically, job duties must be maintained or adjusted where possible to accommodate working in a virtual environment and maintaining support.

Group affiliation for this position is with the Administrative/Professional/Confidential (APC) Group. The position is evaluated at a Group 7 (salary range $72,377 - $93,276). Salary scale can be viewed here.

Qualifications

To be the successful Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis you will possess an undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration and a professional accounting designation along with three (3) years to five (5) years of directly related experience. You must have an understanding of current accounting policies and practices, including accounting for not-for-profit organizations as well as thorough knowledge of financial, fund and managerial accounting, financial systems, internal controls, financial analysis and reporting. The successful candidate must have demonstrated supervisory experience and demonstrated progressive leadership experience including engaging staff in a collaborative and cohesive spirit in order to attain desired results. Above average interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and advanced skills in Excel will round out your qualifications as the successful candidate.
