Maintenance Person

The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Person is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs, and servicing in the following areas - carpentry, plumbing, heating, basic electrical, painting, ventilation, on properties, under the jurisdiction of NSPHA.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Maintain properties under the jurisdiction of NSPHA, including maintenance and repairs of walks, driveways and parking areas.
  • Carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities, and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain and repair all aspects of the building envelope of NSPHA properties.
  • Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory records.
  • Repair vacant units to make them rent-ready.
  • Recommend the replacement or acquisition of equipment and materials.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Must Have

  • Grade 12 plus five years of experience in building and property maintenance or a related field is required. Must be able to perform standard tasks in carpentry, plumbing, heating, painting and drywall.
  • Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ability to operate electrical tools, mechanical tools and perform physical tasks using good body mechanics.
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning, and dealing with inquiries, requests, and submissions.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license and a good driving record.

Nice to Have

  • First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
  • Knowledge of computer systems

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in an on-call rotation to support operational needs outside regular business hours.

This position requires a valid driver's license and use of a work vehicle. Travel within HRM County is required.
