Position: Library Clerk II, Document Delivery (NSGEU Local 79)

Department: Patrick Power Library

Annual Salary: $32,510 - $36,157 (Group 3)

Under the supervision of the Information Systems Librarian, and daily direction of the Library Assistant V (Document Delivery), the Library Clerk II is responsible for processing requests to ensure the timely delivery of books and documents to patrons through the Library's Document Delivery service. The Library Clerk II also assists in providing materials through the Library's Interlibrary Lending services. Duties include locating, retrieving, packaging and processing library materials under established policies. They also include using document delivery computer software, scanning and photocopying of materials, keeping detailed records, as well as providing information and assistance to library patrons. Duties may also include e-text editing, library material shelving and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Library Clerk II, Document Delivery include but are not limited to:

  • Processing incoming/outgoing books and articles for library users via Novanet Express.
  • Scanning, transmitting and receiving documents using electronic document delivery software.
  • Maintaining detailed records and statistics of Novanet Express transactions.
  • Overseeing the work of Student Assistants in fulfilling tasks and providing assistance/guidance.
  • Taking appropriate action with requests which cannot be filled, and with overdue, missing or damaged loaned materials.
  • Liaising with Document Deliver courier services.
  • Receiving Interlibrary Lending requests by email, mail, or other means and routes accordingly.
  • Locating, retrieving and processing books and articles being supplied to other libraries.
  • Maintaining detailed records of interlibrary lending transactions.
  • Locating books and journals in the library using the Library of Congress classification system.
  • Checking books in/out as needed using Novanet circulation module and/or Document Delivery software.
  • Searching various online databases to retrieve electronic journal articles to be supplied.
  • Retrieving and arranging transportation of materials as required.
  • Photocopying and scanning materials as required.
  • Organizing and reviewing material for pick up.
  • Unpacking and processing materials received by mail and courier.
  • Packaging, labelling and recording materials to be shipped by mail and courier.
  • Return Anywhere materials processing.
  • Assisting staff and library patrons with questions about orders and materials regarding Document Delivery.
  • Following up on issues which may arise from patron's inquiries.
  • Contacting patrons and other libraries by telephone, e-mail or fax to communicate information or deal with special situations.
  • Assisting the University Archives with scanning, photocopying, other duties as needed.
  • Assisting Access Services with public desk services, book shelving and other duties as needed.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Library Clerk II, Document Delivery you will possess high school graduation and a minimum of six (6) months related experience. Familiarity with basic computer operation and keyboarding; familiarity with Library of Congress Classification System; and the proven aptitude for public service and ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and faculty will round out your success in this position.
