Designed to meet the needs of multiple events, Nova Scotia's Halifax Convention Centre offers over 120,000 square feet of flexible event space in the heart of downtown. The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a million-square-foot, mixed-use development that includes a hotel, office towers, and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province's history.

THE POSITION:

The Halifax Convention Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Kitchen Steward (core) with our Food and Beverage team.

The focus of this role is to maintain the high standards of cleanliness our kitchen is known for. This integral role works within the kitchen, dishwashing, cleaning kitchen equipment and surfaces, assisting in waste disposal, recycling efforts, participating in event preparations, and other day to day kitchen activities. This role works closely with members of our Food and Beverage team.

THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean the kitchen equipment and surfaces to uphold the highest standard of cleanliness for the kitchen department.
  • Clean and sanitize all serving ware, dishes, utensils, and cooking supplies.
  • Assist in waste disposal and recycling efforts by emptying and sorting waste appropriately.
  • Support event preparations by ensuring required event materials are ready and placed on time.
  • Other duties as required.

THE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High standard of personal hygiene and grooming regarding food safety.
  • Able to work standing for long periods of time, perform repetitive tasks, lift up to 50lbs, and push or pull wheeled equipment up to 200lbs (assisted).
  • Must be available to work flexible shifts, including early morning, evening (that can last until after midnight), weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or cleaning position is considered an asset.

Definition of Core position:

Core hourly rated employees are those individuals who are regularly scheduled.

Events East

We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.

We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.

Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).
