We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support our growing business. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced team environment and would be interested in contributing to the direction of future Kraken products.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
- 1 year contract with possibility of extension or full-time employment
- Perform design and drawing tasks related to the mechanical and hydraulic systems of Kraken Robotics line of subsea robotics, batteries, and acoustic imaging equipment (Synthetic Aperture Sonar, Katfish ROTV, Autonomous Launch and Recovery System, Acoustic Corer and Sub-Bottom Imager).
- Develop and maintain documentation to support production and operation of subsea equipment including part and assembly drawings, manuals, procedures, training material, deck plans, interface instructions, etc.
- Project and subcontractor management
- Participation in engineering meetings including resourcing meetings, design reviews, lessons learned.
- Liaise with the electrical and systems engineering, software, operations, geoscience, project management, and business development internal departments as required.
- Occasionally perform hands-on work including assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and testing of components.
- Willingness to travel for short-term or long-term periods to our other office locations or mobilisation sites considered an asset.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree in the Mechanical Discipline
Skills or experience in these areas considered an asset:
- Marine surveys and their associated equipment including ROVs, AUVs, and sonar systems.
- Underwater acoustic principles and design practices.
- Subsea electronics packaging (pressure vessel design).
- Battery design.
- Fabrication and machining processes.
- 3D Printing/Prototyping.
- Hydraulics.
- Motors.
- Military contracts.
- Subcontractor management.
- Creating manufacturing documentation and procedures.
- Technical writing.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficient in SolidWorks for part/assembly modelling, drawingsand FEA (Simulation). Experience with Solidworks PDM and FEA (Simulation) an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. German language skills considered an asset.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines under tight timelines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members.
- High degree of organization
- Top candidates will have strong problem-solving skills, creative design ability, and meticulous attention to detail.
