Reporting directly to the Group Underwriting Manager, the incumbent is responsible for analyzing information on groups of less than 100 lives and ensuring justified underwriting of quotes, renewals and all other option requests. This role contributes to maintaining profitability through the control and development of underwriting and selection standards. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting the group insurance sales team in understanding the customer's needs and making an offer (benefits and rates) that is competitive with those offered on the market. This position participates in the negotiation of files with the reinsurer, and must be in contact with some of our brokers/TPAs, and must be able to prioritize work to meet deadlines, while considering our relationships with partners.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure completion of work
  • Responsible for analysis and pricing calculations for renewals.
  • Perform pricing on requests/options; analyze and ensure full understanding of the customer's need.
    • Question missing information if applicable.
    • Calculate requested options.
  • Price quotations
    • Analyze quote information for groups under 100 lives.
    • Negotiate with reinsurer if necessary.
    • Make decision to underwrite or decline.
    • Review proposal document and ensure inclusion of file-specific details.
    • Support negotiation of final rates within approval limits.
  • Ensure continuous improvement by participating in the creation or improvement of procedures.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Good oral and written communication skills in French and English
  • Group pricing knowledge is considered an asset
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and solve problems independently, often under tight deadlines.

  • Ability to create creative solutions in line with customer needs.

  • Basic understanding of reports and contracts for various financial agreements, such as retention agreements and administrative services only.

  • Understanding of group insurance contracts, laws and regulations in various provinces.

  • Ability to negotiate and make decisions within established standards and limits.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (especially Excel).

  • Good interpersonal skills and customer focus.
