Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians every day. We achieve this through more than 1,400 employees, including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers, and support staff.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the IT Technology Manager, the Team Lead for Core System Administration is both a supervisory and technical position focused on overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Core Systems Administration team members for IT Services as well as participating in hands on technical work as part of the core team. The incumbent will work with Technology Managers to support the systems hardware infrastructure, server operating systems and enterprise applications.

Working closely with all members of the IT Services team to ensure seamless customer service for each area of responsibility within IT Services, the Team Lead Core System Administration will also work with other technology stakeholders within the organization to accomplish initiatives and resolve operational problems. As a team lead he/she will often be assigned as a project team member and will be required to also take direction from assigned project managers and clients in meeting assigned project tasks

The position entails but is not limited to the following:

  • Includes all the duties of a Core Systems Administrator
  • Working closely with a Technology Manager, supervise the Core System Administration staff to administer and support the organizations core applications (i.e. EHS CAD, ePCR, AVL, etc):
    • Oversee resolution of issues with servers, systems, enterprise applications
    • Act as advanced support for technical issues (Tier 2, 3) to the Service Delivery team, Business Intelligence Team, and Infrastructure Team.
    • Engage external vendors/manufactures for tier 3+ support.
    • Develop system design and architecture
    • Lead in the implementation of new systems and technologies
    • Keep current on relevant technologies
    • Develop or provide direction in the development of operational guides, processes and procedures based on internal requirements and industry best practices.
    • Provide significant input into the Business Continuity Planning
  • This position will often be required to provide hands on technical support as part of the Core System Administration team.
  • Working closely with the ITM, provides significant input into the IT department's budgets relating to Core System Administration equipment and services.
  • Working closely with the Technology Leads to oversees and monitors ticket queues to ensure compliance with customer SLAs for the System Administration Team.
  • On occasion may be called upon to act as project technical team lead in managing and coordinating assigned corporate technology initiatives and projects relating to Core System Administration.
  • Working closely with the ITM, provides direction and coaching to IT Core team members through regular team and individual meetings. She/he provides significant input for annual performance appraisals.
  • Working closely with the ITM, provides technology estimates and options analysis input for projects within his/her scope.
  • Available for on call and after-hours work including being a first escalation point as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • University Degree or an equivalent combination of IT education, training and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in information systems, preferably in health care.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills with emphasis on decision-making, problem solving, and communication skills
  • ITIL certification training considered an asset.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge and/or expertise in the information technology aspects.
  • Must have the ability to earn confidence, trust and respect from colleagues; present ideas clearly and concisely and follow through on commitments.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, decision-maker and problem-solver.
