NBCC is currently seeking a dynamic and competent Individual for the position of International Immigration Advisor. This position can be located at any of our campuses (with the exception of Fredericton) or Corporate office.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of International Education & Engagement, and as part of the International Education Team, the International Immigration Advisor will serve as the primary advisor providing information, support and advice to admitted and current international students on Canadian immigration, study permit, work permit, visa applications, government regulations, and college policies for NBCC.

The position involves the professional and competent application of advising procedures in a confidential and ethical manner in accordance with standards set by the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE), the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) and applicable professional associations.

Developing policies and procedures to assist accepted NBCC international applicants with their study permit and visa applications including, but not limited to:

  • Planning, delivering, and coordinating online and in-person workshops to assist accepted international NBCC applicants with preparing study permit and visa applications for submission to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
  • Conducting one-on-one, online and in-person, sessions with accepted international applicants to review all required documents are included in the applicant's study permit application and provide advice to applicants on any deficiencies in the application.
  • Planning, coordinating and delivering workshops for new and continuing international students, staff and stakeholders on all relevant government regulations and policies related to immigration to Canada. Sessions will include but not be limited to; study permit, work permits, temporary residence, post-graduate permits and the permanent resident application process.
  • Developing and delivering training for NBCC staff on immigration-specific material for orientation programs and workshops.
  • Developing and maintaining online immigration process and guideline on NBCC website.
  • Developing online immigration-specific resources for admitted and current students.
  • Conducting detailed research and remaining current on and interpreting immigration legislation, regulations and policies; define practices and communicate the findings to colleagues, departments, students and stakeholders.
  • Responsible to maintain expertise in IRCC policies and procedures, news and website navigation and share or report within the department and other appropriate College departments.

TRAVEL

  • In-province as required for meetings, training, etc.
  • Out of province / out of country as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Diploma and/or Degree with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) OR Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) designation with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) is required.

Familiarity with the post-secondary educational systems in Canada including familiarity with International Education and with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies and procedures related to international students. Extensive knowledge of Canadian immigration law, policies and regulations as they relate to international students.

Extensive knowledge of the various pathways for immigration to Canada.

Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and knowledge of other technical resources for delivering quality services.

Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working with international students in a post-secondary environment.

Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.

NBCC offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that includes a competitive salary for this position ranging from $49,374 to $69,056 annually. Specific placement on the salary range will be determined by education and experience.
