As an internal auditor at Assomption Life, you will be responsible for developing audit programs and conducting accounting, financial, operational, and compliance audits to support managers in fulfilling their responsibilities. You will present the results to your supervisor and business line managers.

Your role is to provide assurance regarding the control of the organization's operations and to validate the measures put in place. You will influence audit engagements on business processes and projects by making recommendations based on your findings and communicating the results to relevant stakeholders. Given the diversity of engagements and collaboration with professionals from various fields, strong interpersonal skills are essential.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Develop financial, operational, and/or compliance audit programs using a risk-based approach and execute the work according to established timelines. Evaluate identified observations and weaknesses, formulate practical recommendations and solutions, and prepare final reports.
  • Present the results, conclusions, and recommendations to the Head of Internal Audit and to the managers/leaders of the audited operations.
  • Coordinate the follow-up on recommendations issued during audit engagements and verify their implementation on a quarterly basis.
  • Coordinate work with external auditors during annual financial audits.
  • Comply with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IIA) and the policies and procedures of the Internal Audit Department and the Company.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English; ability to write reports and formulate recommendations.
  • A university degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in auditing or compliance.
  • A professional certification in accounting or auditing (CPA, CIA, or other designations) or a willingness to obtain one is considered an asset.
  • Excellent analytical skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail to synthesize information and formulate recommendations when conducting various types of audits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a high level of professionalism, and discretion to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive files and topics.
  • Strong knowledge of internal audit standards (IIA), regulations governing the insurance sector (OSFI, AMF, ACCAP, etc.), best practices in internal auditing, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry (considered an asset)
